Selecting the Proper Shampoo

While there are no hard and fast rules for shampooing your hair, one thing is certain: proper scalp hygiene is as critical to luxurious hair as oral hygiene is to healthy teeth. Your scalp is like the soil in a garden. If it is kept clean and uncontaminated, nourished with nutrients and well irrigated through proper blood circulation, the hair growing in it will flourish and thrive.

First and foremost: choosing shampoos that satisfy all of these natural requirements is indispensable to total hair care. Be sure they are of the highest quality, non-detergent and organic, containing no artificial colors or scents. Many commercial shampoos on the market - -- even those that claim to be "natural" -- contain artificial colors, scents and detergents that dry and damage the hair and often clog the follicle openings rather than cleanse the scalp.

Detergents and color additives leave a coating on the hair. Artificial scents dry the hair shafts, damaging them and making them brittle. Chemical additives also dry and plug up the scalp, disturbing its natural pH balance, causing dandruff, itchiness, premature hair thinning and significant, eventually hair loss.

In addition to harmful chemicals, it is also wise to avoid shampoos containing berries, tomatoes, guava, etc. You need a basic shampoo, not a fruit salad dressing for your hair. However enticingly "natural" they may sound, these fruit and vegetable derivatives plug up pores, dry out hair, and disturb the pH balance of the scalp and the natural texture of your hair.

Contrary to "conventional wisdom," it is not necessary to purchase a special formula for dry or oily hair. These special purpose shampoos simply include even more harmful, toxic additives. Through The Morrocco Method of all-natural hair care, excessive oil or dryness will eventually disappear and the natural balance of scalp and hair will be restored.

When selecting a shampoo, the nose test is an excellent barometer. Trust your sense of smell. It is very reliable. If the shampoo has no synthetic scent, and smells wholesome and appealing, it is very likely a good shampoo for you; but it may not necessarily be good for your friend. Each of us has a different chemical balance that often changes with circumstance and age. There is no single shampoo that can be recommended for everyone.

Ideally, your shampooing regimen should contain three or more organic shampoos that are rotated regularly. Over a period of time, the scalp and hair can become resistant and immune to a single shampoo, upsetting the alkaline pH balance. Regularly alternating shampoos helps to keep the hair and scalp receptive and responsive, insuring a thorough cleansing and nourishing every time they are used. Our line of shampoos is based on this principle of rotation and on natural methods of properly caring for your hair. We have developed four shampoos, formulated according to the four elements of Air, Earth, Fire and Water, which, in uniquely varying degrees, constitute the essence of every living thing. These Elemental Shampoos contain only the finest organic ingredients available from all over the world.

Our shampoos and body wash products harness the power of nature's most potent herbs, oils, and minerals, and have been formulated, blended and bottled according to the 13-moon lunar astrology cycle to maximize their vitality.

Although each of our shampoos cleanses, detoxifies, nourishes hair and scalp, and stimulates blood flow, each one emphasizes a particular treatment: the Air Essence nourishes and heals, the Earth Essence detoxifies, and the Fire Essence stimulates blood flow and the Sea Essence (Water) cleanses. When alternated regularly, these four Elemental Shampoos provide the finest, most effective, holistic hair care treatment in the world.

When to Shampoo

So many conflicting views have been written on the subject of shampooing that people by now are thoroughly confused. While some say it is best to shampoo every day, others insist that daily shampooing dries and damages the hair. Fortunately it is not as complicated as it seems. There is a simple, common sense rule to follow, and it is this: Observe your hair and decide for yourself how often you need to shampoo it.

Some people are comfortable shampooing their hair twice a day. For others, shampooing just once a day is too much - it depletes the natural oils on their hair and scalp, and is too drying. For many, shampooing every other day maintains a healthier chemical balance of both scalp and hair and is more desirable.

Those, on the other hand, whose brushing habits are correct and consistent, have extended their shampooing regimen to every three or four days. All of these regimens can be effective for you. As long as your new growth of hair is maintaining its luster, health and vitality, the regimen you are working is right for you.

How to Shampoo

At first glance, the recommendation by the shampoo industry that we shampoo our hair twice each session sounds like a gimmick to sell more shampoo. But there is value in this recommendation. A perfect shampoo is achieved in two parts. The first shampooing cleanses hair and scalp of dirt, dead cells and dust, which you would otherwise massage back into the hair, scalp and follicle openings if you shampooed only once. This clogging debris could retard new hair growth and severely damage the oil glands, upsetting the natural fall-out and reproductive cycles of your hair.

The second shampooing and massage of your clean hair and scalp stimulates the flow of blood to the scalp and opens the hair follicles, allowing the blood vessels to feed each root, bulb and hair shaft, nourishing the entire follicle and activating the sebaceous (oil) glands. This ensures the proper lubrication and distribution of your own natural oils to the entire scalp and hair shafts. A natural coating of oil is vital to the maintenance of a healthy scalp and hair. It keeps the outer layer of hair lubricated and prevents drying, which is the excessive evaporation of moisture.

Step One: Wet your hair, then apply a nickel-sized portion of shampoo to your scalp. Massage it lightly into your hair and scalp, and then rinse thoroughly, using warm water.

Step Two: After rinsing, take a quarter-size portion of the same shampoo and massage it gently into your clean hair and scalp for a second cleansing, then rinse thoroughly, finishing with a cool rinse. Towel dry hair and scalp thoroughly. Your hair is now ready to be brushed and styled.
